講座｜中共殖民地寄宿制學校與西藏文化傳承前景的社會學解讀

活動概要：

演講將聚焦於殖民寄宿學校的歷史遺產，特別探討中國共產黨在西藏推行的文化同化政策。殖民寄宿學校最早於殖民時期建立，其核心目的是強行灌輸殖民者的價值觀、語言與文化，同時壓制當地傳統。這類學校曾廣泛存在於印度、非洲與美洲等地，其遺留下來的語言帝國主義、強制同化與體罰問題，至今仍是重要的研究課題。

近期報告顯示，約有一百萬名西藏兒童被迫進入中國公立寄宿學校，在這些學校中，他們被迫與家人分離、失去學習母語的機會，並只能接受漢語授課。這是中國政府加強同化境內藏人群體、達到削弱其文化身份的一種戰略。

本次演講將深入剖析西藏的現況，指出中國政府如何日益強化利用教育作為政治控制的工具，對西藏文化產生影響與後果。

講者：嘉洛博士（Dr. Jia Luo ，藏文ལྡོང་ཕྱིང་གུར་བ་རྒྱལ་ལོ། Dr. Gyal Lo）

嘉洛博士是一位積極倡導保護西藏文化的行動者、教育社會學家，專長研究中國對西藏的同化政策。出生於西藏，在中國西北民族大學獲得碩士學位，成為該校的助理教授。後於2015年取得加拿大多倫多大學取得博士學位，2017年獲得雲南大學教授職位。他從觀察到自己侄孫女們被送入同化藏族兒童的寄宿學校後的轉變，開始對於寄宿學校進行實地考察，記錄中國的教育政策對藏人社區的影響。2020年因「具有西方背景的外籍藏人」的身份被迫逃離中國，此後積極投身於西藏教育權利的倡導工作，著有《Social Structuration in Tibetan Society: Education, Society, and Spirituality 》(Lexington Books 2021)。

A Sociological Analysis of CCP Colonial Boarding Schools and the Future of Tibetan Cultural Preservation

Abstract

This lecture focuses on the historical legacy of colonial boarding schools, specifically examining the cultural assimilation policies implemented by the Chinese Communist Party in Tibet. Originally established during the colonial era, boarding schools were designed to forcibly instill the values, language, and culture of the colonizers while suppressing indigenous traditions. This model, once prevalent across India, Africa, and the Americas, remains a critical subject of research due to its lasting impact on linguistic imperialism, forced assimilation, and systemic physical punishment.

Recent reports indicate that approximately one million Tibetan children have been coerced into state-run boarding schools in China. Separated from their families, these children are deprived of the opportunity to learn their mother tongue and are subjected to Mandarin-only instruction. This is a strategic effort by the Chinese government to intensify the assimilation of the Tibetan population and erode their cultural identity. This lecture will provide an in-depth analysis of the current situation in Tibet, highlighting how the Chinese government increasingly utilizes education as a tool for political control and the profound consequences this has on Tibetan culture.

About the Speaker

Dr. Gyal Lo (Tibetan: ལྡོང་ཕྱིང་གུར་བ་རྒྱལ་ལོ།) Dr. Gyal Lo is a prominent advocate for the preservation of Tibetan culture and a sociologist of education specializing in China’s assimilation policies in Tibet. Born in Tibet, he earned his Master’s degree from Northwest Minzu University in China, where he later served as an Assistant Professor. He obtained his PhD from the University of Toronto, Canada, in 2015 and was appointed as a Professor at Yunnan University in 2017.

His research was galvanized by observing the transformation of his own grand-nieces after they were sent to boarding schools. This led him to conduct extensive fieldwork documenting the impact of Chinese educational policies on Tibetan communities. In 2020, he was forced to flee China due to his status as a “Tibetan with a Western background.” Since then, he has been a vocal advocate for Tibetan educational rights. He is the author of Social Structuration in Tibetan Society: Education, Society, and Spirituality (Lexington Books, 2021).
